Two songs that have been cycling through my head )
lizfu: (Fangirl)
First, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "The Lyre of Orpheus" album is eating my brains in ways that are simultaneously awesome and devastating. Nick Cave fills me with glee and despair. Oh, baby, why you gotta be like this?

(granted, it's Nick Cave, and his music isn't really meant to be the soundtrack of a happy, fulfilled life)

Some tracks I enjoy:

O Children (obvsly) - Damn you, Harry Potter, for being awesome and using this song ;A;

Carry Me - THIS is my favorite track. This and "O Children" appear side-by-side. "Carry Me" is the resolution of the very loose Orphic myth that the album tells (the end of the Orpheus-Eurydice part) and "O Children" is the coda (where he dies years later).

The Lyre of Orpheus - Nick Cave's more literal and crude take on the Orpheus myth :D (it fills me with fuzzies and lols)

Also, here are some other songs that are amazing:

The Lost Song by The Cat Empire.

James Bond by Scouting for Girls (would it be evil of me to suggest that this song needs to be vidded??)

Five Step - a Radiohead/Dave Brubeck mash-up :DDD

And because it's always easy and fun to make fun of hipsters:

Charles Bronson Kills Hipsters - Charles Bronson is one thing that hipsters can't ruin!! (and when you least expect it - Jeff Goldblum)

Cultural Vampirism - is it ironic that I want to make this into an ironic t-shirt that hipsters will probably wear in order to be ironic until the irony becomes irrelevant in fifteen minutes?

Way back when, I had a stalker (okay, I had, like, three, but, really I try not to think of the other two, because they were able to take hints). Things ended badly after he posted on my Facebook something I didn't really appreciate.

Well.

My Tale of Woe )

...

On the bright side of things, my copy of Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) arrived at Ye Ol' Awesome Music Store (that Even Sells Records). Haven't listened to Abattoir Blues yet, but The Lyre of Orpheus is awesomesauce.

Today! I went on a quest.

I...

- got my glasses fitted with new lenses. My old ones were horribly foggy and the prescription actually over-corrected my vision. Fortunately, it didn't effect my eyesight in horrible ways. My new lenses are so clear and I can see so much better ;A;

- went to Fort Wayne to hunt down a couple items, most of which I found after searching a couple places: The Outermost House by Henry Beston, As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann, The Union by Elton John & Leon Russell (produced by T Bone Burnett).

- the only thing I didn't find were any Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds albums that I wanted. Murder Ballads (which is ZOMGAMAZING) is out of print, but I was able to special order The Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus.

- Bought my sister's Christmas gift: the deluxe edition of Lonely Avenue by Ben Folds, which comes with a small book by Nick Hornby. Two of the things my sister loves in this world are Ben Folds's music and Nick Hornby's books. So this album is like an awesome, holy union.

I don't know if she's heard it yet.

- Bought one gift for one friend, which I need to mail out on Friday so she'll get it soon.

And that was my day.

...

And to relate this back to the title of the post, the Elton John/Leon Russell album is fucking amazing. It's apart of this growing trend of old musicians doing albums (usually with T Bone Burnett), which try to recapture their musical roots in blues, gospel, soul, and country (not modern commercial country, though). I like to call it Old Man Blues Rock.

It's a pretty damn awesome trend.

One day, I will make a post on how amazing Janelle Monae is and how much I adore her. I love how stylistically, she doesn't dress down to express herself, but instead chooses to dress up and in what would be considered "men's fashion."

In the meanwhile, have an awesomely amazing music vid (from, like, 2009):

Cut for Video )
lizfu: (WTF)
Me: OOH! Elton John greatest hits CD that doesn't have his sucky 90's hits! *buys*

Car CD Player: I do not approve of your choice of music. E20.

Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! *sobs*

And the best part is when I checked my car manual to see how to clean the CD player. Fun Fact: There is no recommended way. In fact, it recommends that I DON'T use a CD player cleaning disc.

Bastard.
