It's been a while since I updated or written anything that wasn't a status update or commentary on a tumblr reblog.

Um, where to start....

Well, the store where I've been working for the last five years closed on Tuesday. We finished packing the remainder of our product and equipment and loaded everything onto a truck today. Before that, however, we had one helluva quarter: our store manager transferred to a new store and the senior assistant manager took over; we hired a new SRAM, but he didn't work out at all; drama ERUPTED between management and one of our part-timers who should have really been let go after last Christmas (the short version: she got away with a ton of shit under old store manager because he didn't care; new store manager would not put up with any of her shit. HR got involved after part-timer harassed me via text message over her hours getting cut when I had nothing to do with it; she managed to piss off HR and wound up being let go within five minutes of her final warning. It really sucked.); our store (and 50 others) flooded when a water main in the mall burst, and we were closed for over two weeks at the start of November, opening just in time to scramble to get ready for Black Friday and the Christmas season.

The announcement that we were closing came as a surprise to everybody; our lease was up and the mall's corporate decided to charge us much more because they had another company eying our location - no real room for negotiation.

And none of this is taking into account my personal life, which was in shambles but is starting to look up at least. I should be a sobbing wreck or something, but I'm honestly relieved. It's the end of a period in my life and I just want to move on. At least I left with (1) a promotion to full-time assistant manager (which padded my account), (2) four weeks of severance (for all the time I worked there), (3) an excellent reference from my district manager (who only really ever visited us twice a month until all the fun stuff in November, and liked me enough to ask for my phone number in case of any management openings at other locations), (4) a pretty strong friendship with the store manager (the current one, not the last one), (5) actual real job experience that will look nice on a resume, (6) a comfy new office chair and storage containers that would have otherwise been thrown away (also: a TON of printer paper), and (7) a free beer courtesy of my DM, who treated us this afternoon (oatmeal stout - YES).

#7 is the most important. That stout was all sorts of perfection.

Aside from the bits that sucked, I have fallen into Marvel fandom via MCU and Fraction's run of Hawkeye. What I jokingly called a dirty weekend back in June became a full-fledged relationship. In addition to Hawkeye, I'm also following Young Avengers (which just finished, boo!), Thunderbolts, and really any title that catches my eye based on author and any good hearsay (Immonen's Avengers Annual #1 was the best thing I read all December, and Ellis' Avengers: Endless Wartime made me want more Ellis-written Avengers if only for the banter and cheap shots at Clint Barton's dignity).

Comic books and losing my job are the best things to happen to me these past seven months. (This is pathetic, do not judge me...too harshly).
