Saw Captain America with Coworker C and her sister tonight. Conclusion: It was better than Thor (which was an alright movie filled with many lulzy moments, which left me wanting more), but not as amazing as Iron Man. It was extremely enjoyable ESPECIALLY the bond sales part where you could see Steve die a little inside each time he said a line.
A few things that I would have loved to see more of:
1) Howard Stark
2) More of Bucky's badassery (wasn't he supposed to be an annoying sidekick?)
3) More Agent Carter badassery
4) Howard Stark
5) More character development (so I would have cared more when Bucky died)
6) Howard Stark

Date: 2011-08-09 03:26 am (UTC)From:Bucky was supposed to be the upbeat adorable little brother type who is trained to be an assassin and becomes Winter Soldier. I suspect in the movie-verse that Bucky is not actually dead (I mean, he--fell out of a plane or something in the comics, idr, so it's not like his "death" doesn't happen and scar Steve there), but that the 'verse will hand-wave it with the whole Hydra experiments thing. If Winter Soldier does not pop up at some point in movie-verse, I will be surprised.
As for Thor vs. Captain America, I enjoyed both, but enjoyed Thor more for actually passing the Bechdel test, though Captain America had a pretty awesome lady all its own. Also, sympathetic villain. Yes, Loki did terrible things, but he's Loki. And scientist ladies > ladies with guns (unless they are played by Zoe Saldana; scientist ladies with guns played by Zoe Saldana are the obvious winner of everything). Obv. my judgment is very biased in favor of my weak spots. /o\
