[Fic] Germ of an Idea

I have the biggest hankering to write an epic Supernatural AU with a chronological scope that runs from World War I to some time in the Roaring Twenties (unless I'm feeling kind enough to let them live into the Great Depression).

Also, I'm cringing at the amount of research I'm going to have to do for this, because I know next to nothing about WWI (except that there were trench warfare and flyboys). Any ideas where to start? Any film or book suggestions? Documentaries are love as well.
