[Technology] Laptop Question: Regarding professional repairs

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215, which has been my one and only laptop for the last five years. It's been a great laptop with only a minor BIOS problem early on that I was able to resolve quickly thanks for a patch. However, as my baby is getting up there in laptop years, her parts will start giving out, but I love her enough to drop money on the repairs instead of ditching her for a new model.

Her CPU fan has started making a wheezing noise every now and then. If I prop her up, the noise goes away, but I'm afraid of what this may indicate. I've already looked around at parts - they're fairly inexpensive - as well as guides for disassembling a Toshiba Satellite A215. The most I got out of these guides was, "HAHAHAHA! No. Unless you're experienced in the mysterious art of Toshiba laptop repair, take it to a professional."

So, my question: Should I take my baby to the Geek Squad? Will they even repair a laptop that's well out of warranty? How are their prices for repairs?

[Rants] World Tragedies, News, and Social Media

When the 8.9 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan, my Facebook and Twitter feeds were flooded with both news and support for the nation. When the Casey Anthony trial ended with a verdict of not guilty, both feeds were blowing up with indignation and shock (with a few posts pointing out the facts of the trial and how the state of Florida had kinda fucked this one up). Yesterday, a bomb is detonated around government buildings in Oslo, Norway, and not too long after on a nearby island, a right wing Christian fundamentalist posing as a police officer opened fire on a youth camp, killing 84 (and counting) teenagers, who ran into the woods or dove into the sea to try to escape. Twitter was practically on fire with news (okay, this might be an exaggeration - even Twitter was a little slow in taking it up), but on my Facebook feed, there was nothing but the usual narcissism.

What the fuck?

I posed this observation on Facebook, and so far a majority of the replies have been, "Well, it was all over the news, so everybody had already heard about it." So there was no need to post anything about it, not even sympathy?

Ugh.

Good Technology: Firefox 4.0

Just wasting space on your droll to say how Firefox 4.0 is rocking my socks atm. 3.6-ish (or whatever I was using) was painful to watch try to load Gmail. With a wave of its digital hand and a very bored yawn, 4.0 loaded it like it was a .txt file - fast, simple, no hassle. And then 4.0 gave me a blowjob.

Or it should have.

Even though I don't have the proper equipment.

I'm waiting for the bugs to start popping up, because so far, 4.0 is working a little too beautifully.

AND SPACE! I HAVE ALL THIS SPACE!! IN MY BROWSER!!!

(I geek out over the weirdest things, okay?)

(New tag brought to you by a very poignant Red Guitars song and the 80's)

I promise to start posting art again...someday.
